April 9, 2013

Dear AAO East/Est Members,

Spring has sprung and it is that time of year again to send out our official notice of our upcoming Annual General Meeting.  This year we shall be holding our AGM at the Canadian Museum of Civilization.  We will be fortunate to have a tour of the Archives and as Thursday evening is the night of their free admission to the museum we may also wish to take advantage of the opportunity.  The details are as follows:

Location: CMC, Salon des Cascades
Date: Thursday, May 9th
Time: 6:30pm to 8:30pm (AGM followed by tour)

Election of Executive Officers notification was provided in a previous post.

A copy of the Chapter Constitution proposed for the AAO East/Est to be voted upon at the AGM was distributed to Chapter members via the membership list. If you did not receive a copy of the constitution and believe you should have received a copy as a member please contact us at aaoeast@gmail.com.

The AAO East/Est has been operating under the Constitution of its predecessor body the EOAA (Eastern Ontario Archives Association).  The EOAA, in partnership with TAAG founded the AAO (formerly OAA).  The EOAA was never formerly a chapter of the AAO; rather it was an independent body.  Consequently, operating under the EOAA Constitution is problematic at best.  In accordance with the AAO Constitution, which requires each Chapter to have a constitution, a committee was established in 2011 consisting of Margaret Dixon, John Fotheringham and John Lund to write a constitution on the basis of existing AAO chapter constitutions and best practice.  The constitution was to be introduced at the 2012 AGM, however, given the uncertainty that arose out of the elimination of the NADP it was thought best to withhold any decision on the introduction of a new constitution at that time.

If you have any questions please email at aaoeast@gmail.com

Sincerely,
John D. Lund, President
AAO East/Est Chapter

Thanks for A Successful Charity Trivia Night!

Hi AAO East/Est Chapter members,

We had a wonderfully successful Charity Trivia Night and I would like thank all who came out!  I would like to give a special nod to members of the ACA Board who dropped in to take part.  The ACA Board was meeting with its committee chairs for their Spring P&P.  We appreciate the local support and their good company.

I believe our final total for the evening was $260.00, which will go to the Ottawa Food Bank.

For those who attended and noticed the cramp conditions of the reserved room at the Georgetown, we shall be investigating new potential locations to accomodate our max number of 25 for our Trivia Nights.  Our goal is to keep the participation number at a manageable level so as not to get too complicated to organize and fun for all.

Look for our next Trivia Night in the fall.  But before then don't forget to come out for the AGM May 9th, Canadian Museum of Civilization, Salon des Cascades, 6:30pm - 8:30pm (AGM followed by tour).

Sincerely,
John D. Lund, President
